IU License Plate

What is the IU collegiate license plate?
The IU collegiate license plate provides a great opportunity to support IU and show your Hoosier pride. This official state license plate features the red and white interlocking IU logo and proclaims your support for IU wherever you may travel. The purchase of each IU plate includes a $25 tax-deductible contribution to Indiana University through the IU Alumni Association, which helps provide scholarships to IU students and valuable services and programs to the university.

It's easy to get!
The IU license plate is available to all Indiana residents directly from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Just stop by your local license branch and ask for the IU collegiate license plate. You may also renew by mail or phone, online or by using any BMV express terminals.

How do I renew my current IU plate in 2002?
A new five-year plate cycle begins in 2002. You will receive a new plate that you will be able to renew and keep for four additional years. You may get your new IU plate at your local license branch or you may use any of the express renewal options provided by the BMV -- mail, phone, or online by simply including an additional $40 along with your regular BMV fees. This includes a $25 contribution to Indiana University and a $15 BMV administrative fee.

I've never had an IU plate, or I want an additional one for a second car. How do I get one if I'm ordering for the first time?
If you wish to purchase an original-issue or an additional IU plate for the 2002-2003 plate year, simply contact your local license branch, where you may pick up the IU plate. Or you may request your plate by mail, phone, or online. Your IU plate will cost only $40 in addition to your regular registration fees. This includes your tax-deductible $25 contribution to IU and the $15 administrative fee to the BMV.

How does IU get my $25 contribution?
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will collect and forward the $25 contribution to the IU Alumni Association. The funds raised by the IU Collegiate License Plate program help the IU Alumni Association provide scholarship opportunities to IU students and expand IUAA programs and services. The license plate program directly funds the IUAA Scholars and Good Friends programs.

Personalized plates ...
Don't forget you may now personalize the IU plate. Place your order for 2003 personalized IU plates at your local license branch before December 2002. Your plate will be ready in April 2003. Plates may use a combination of letters and numbers in five spaces. The Indiana BMV determines the eligibility of your choice.
